Wastewater Success story
Fruition Fruit & Fills, a subsidiary of Tim Hortons, operates a manufacturing plant in Oakville, Ontario. The facility manufactures and exports a wide range of products for the baking, confectionary, and dairy industries across the globe. Fruition was seeking a solution to meet their effluent discharge responsibilities.
A conventional approach would have addressed the environmental concern by constructing a large biological treatment plant. This would impose major economic and social burdens (loss of commodity ingredients) on the business — this was not a route they wanted to take.
Enviro-Stewards’ holistic assessment offered a preventative approach, with solutions that resulted in remarkable reductions and savings. After implementation, the facility was able to avoid the need for a treatment system altogether and:
- Reduce loading to sewer by 80%
- Reduce waste sent to landfill by 70%
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30%
This is equivalent to saving:
- Electricity to power 75 homes
- Natural gas to heat 59 homes
- Waste to fill 43 garbage trucks
- Water to fill 15 Olympic sized swimming pools
