Originally certified in 2011 (amongst the first cohort of Canadian B Corporations), Enviro-Stewards recertified again in March 2025.

Enviro-Stewards’ founder & president, Bruce Taylor, explains why Enviro-Stewards has again chosen to complete B Lab’s rigorous recertification process:

Although 2025 has seen a decline in environmental and social commitments, the reasons Enviro-Stewards first chose to join this movement remain, and are even more pressing now.

Since 2008, Enviro-Stewards reduced has its own footprint by 90% through conservation (and equitably offsets twice the remaining balance). However, our larger opportunity to have an impact is through the outcomes of our work (i.e., our 'handprint' or Scope 4 emissions).

For example, in 2019 we helped Maple Leaf Foods become the world’s first carbon neutral major food company (link). Rather than costing them money, they report that the deep conservation measures implemented at 35 of their facilities have generated a net savings of $17 million to date.

Enviro-Stewards’ hybrid mission cultivates resilient business (by helping them profitably reduce their footprints) and improves lives in extraordinary ways (through the Safe Water Social Ventures projects founded by Enviro-Stewards).  The safe water work is highlighted in the short film Amayengo (Ripples) that premiered at the Impact Film Festival

Both Enviro-Stewards and Safe Water Social Ventures are included amongst 25 case studies in the Sustainable Business Textbook authored by Bruce Taylor. One hundred percent of the author’s proceeds from the Image of sustainable business textbooktextbook are directed to help families purchase water purifiers for their homes through locally owned and operated safe water social ventures.
