In 2010, Fruition Fruits & Fills, which makes the icing and fillings for Tim Hortons donuts, sponsored the construction and installation of 40 BioSand Filters (BSFs) in South Sudan, Africa. These 40 BSFs were featured in Tim Hortons’ recently released 2011 Sustainability Report (see below).
Scanning the QR Code on the Sustainability Credit pictured above with a smartphone will take you to a Google Map showing the location of BSF installations (shown below).
Fruition’s plant manager at the time, Don Bell, travelled with Bruce Taylor to South Sudan in 2010 to inspect some of the BSF installations. Bruce met Don when Enviro-Stewards was performing a Pollution Prevention (P2) audit of the Fruition facility located in Oakville, Ontario. The case study below and a recent newspaper article include a photograph of Don and Bruce standing beside one of the sponsored filters, as well as a summary of the results of our work at Fruition (click on the case study to read a PDF version).
